Dual Process Model - Heuristic Pathway vs Analytical Pathway ; Reasonable Mind, Emotional Mind and Wise Mind
These are two different theories.

Dual Process Model - Heuristics and Analysis

The human body does not like to waste energy. It almost constantly takes shortcuts when processing information and when responding. Sometimes, the mind becomes very reactive. It not only jumps to conclusions but carries with those conclusions a strong conviction that they are indisputable truths. The more extreme the conclusion, the more certain it seems to be. However, it is precisely in these moments that the mind is excluding information and taking shortcuts.

Example 1: The Monkey and the Basketball Game
Try to count how many times the Basketball is passed in this game
Example 2: Heuristics: Ball and a Bat (Math) and find a non-math example
The more you are exposed to a situation, the more the mind assumes that the past will repeat itself in the present. In these cases, the brain takes a 'shortcut' or heuristic, and jumps to the conclusion it has the most experience with. This can be dangerous when you are coming out of a situation where you were helpless or abused, as it can make you feel like you are at the mercy of others when you are not, and that you are in danger when you are safe - and when you really are in danger, making the two indistinguishable by feel. hegrfhujig
make this less infodump. more examples, guiding through how it feels and how that would end badly..

The problem with predicting conclusions, is that everyone looks like a threat. If you assume you're overreacting, you'll be hurt by those who are dangerous. If you go along with the feeling of constant threats, you'll hurt yourself by isolating yourself, and others by becoming quite judgemental or cold.

How can I tell when I'm jumping to conclusions?
You need to set up behaviours that test that for you. Consolodating your values and responsibilities so that you can be kind without being used and firm without abusing others or relying on compliance.

I'm still not convinced. Why shouldn't I rely on reason and rationale?
